Tall Ships Update 01 August 2011 16:02

After a delightful start to the race where the message from the boat was “Awesome sight: broad reach in a force 3 with beautiful boats only metres away. Crew very happy, with a small sea and easy motion”. Here are some of the crew blog comments:

Tom: We travelled to Norway together and met other crew members on the 2011 tall ships race On arrival we all moved by bus to the port where there was a great music concert.
We are eating well especially the home made poppy bread buns -a joint effort by Ruth and I. Winds are not too strong and morning star is sailing currently in the Norskerenna (that is the SW tip of Norway).

Emily: We caught fish and named them! One was named after Noel Fielding. Lots of banter; by banter I mean the girls tormenting the poor innocent skipper, who bears such misfortune with saintly grace and patience. Also we’ve done some sailing...

Duncan: Not much drama to report- thank God! The crew are relaxed and enjoying some easy conditions. One watchleader has suggested that each watch will perform some sort of entertainment to the rest of the crew. So the real drama will begin with a love story between Morning Star of Revelation and our arch rival Jolie Brise! We have (inadvertently) fooled the opposition by accidentally rounding down our position-so the current results show we are almost last. The truth is slightly different. To be fair, the wind is
exceptionally light and far from ideal for us.

Ben: Currently preparing some light entertainment for this evening (hopefully involving Duncan walking the plank!) the watch system is
tiring and most people are sleeping in the day.

Only a few teas dropped, a book overboard and some delicious freshly caught mackerel for lunch.
