Tall Ships update - 14th August

The race for leg 3 of the Tall Ships has this year been a race against time to get Morning Star back to Den Helder for the crew change tomorrow (15th August).  They have managed it, and the yellowbrick shows the boat to be safely docked in Den Helder, where they have been since the early hours of this morning.  Congratuatlions to Duncan and the crew for your perseverence.  They are now having some well earned time in port recovering from having been under way for several days, and have one last day together.

Tall Ships Leg 3 progress - 12th August

Morning Star spent the day motoring through the Kiel Canal (sailing is not allowed - which is a good thing as you really do need to keep out of the way of the considerable number of large ships that are under way in the canal!), and is now out in the Elbe, heading towards Cuxhaven.

Tall Ships Blogs - 9th August 2011

Matt – Landed in Sweden on Saturday, joined the boat early in the afternoon and immediately got dragged into a parade with 300 other sailors! Have now sailed with the boat from Halmstad to Copenhagen in Denmark, waiting for the weather to clear to continue onwards back towards England, or perhaps further into the Baltic. Great time so far, weather wet and rough at times but crew friendly and boat still roughly in one piece!

Thomas - Had a wonderful day sailing on board – we had pudding for breakfast with top banana in it. I love being here because in the port of Copenhagen there is a port harbour master and Ben is really good at card tricks.

Max – After a pleasant stay in Halmstad with a lot of party and fine meetings with old and new friends were we all again full of energy and ready for a new adventure. On our way forward we unluckily once more fell victim to a long night of bad weather and seasickness. Hopefully it will not last as long as it did on the way to Halmstad from Stavanger. But my mood is great and I think that nothing stands in our way and that we can reach our destination with all sails up and the wind in our backs. See you sooner than later bye.

Ruth – I agree with everything Max has said except the seasickness. Amazingly on this trip I’ve felt not one twinge, which just goes to show how random sea sickness actually is. Both times we’ve had to stop in Denmark, both in Fredrickshavn and here in Koepenhavn we have experienced a lovely welcome. Another compensation for the problems of the trip has been the wonderful bond between crew members and the team work on board, which really is so delightful it makes up for a multitude of hardships. Sailing through the narrow straight between Helsingor and Helsingborg at dawn this morning with a cloudy brown gold sunrise as a back drop to the story-book Russion style onion domes of the fort or palace on the Danish side was as magical as anything I could have wished for and made my week even more than all the Tall Ships I have seen.

Tall Ships Update - 8th August 2011

Morning Star is under way again - this time heading on a journey towards Den Helder.  There was the Parade of Sail during the day, which is always an impressive site both for participants and spectators. It can be a challenge keeping your place in the parade, as not every ship naturally sails at the same speed in the same conditions!
